JESUS AROSE FROM THE GRAVE

[Mark:15:42-47 [42] And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath, [43] Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus. [44] And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead. [45] And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph. [46] And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre. [47] And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid. ] [Mark:16:1-20 [1] And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. [2] And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. [3] And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? [4] And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great. [5] And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. [6] And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. [7] But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you. [8] And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid. [9] Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. [10] And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept. [11] And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not. [12] After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country. [13] And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them. [14] Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. [15] And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. [16] He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. [17] And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; [18] They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. [19] So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. [20] And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. ] [Acts:1:1-11 [1] The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, [2] Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: [3] To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: [4] And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. [5] For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. [6] When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? [7] And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. [8] But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. [9] And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. [10] And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; [11] Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. ]
“Now is Christ risen from the dead” (I Corinthians 15:20).
Up from the Grave
Early in the morning some of Jesus’ friends came to the tomb and brought sweet spices to anoint His body. They were wondering how they would get that big stone away from the door of the tomb. But when they came to the tomb they found the stone rolled away. God had sent an angel to roll the stone away. The friends went into the tomb and there they saw a man dressed in white. They were afraid, but he told them not to be afraid. He said Jesus was not there, but He had risen from the dead and was alive. He said, “Go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him.” We know the disciples were glad to hear that Jesus was alive and would be with them again.
Jesus Seen Again
Later, that same day, two men were walking along the road, on their way to a village called Emmaus. As they talked together about the death of Jesus, He drew near, and went with them. But they did not know Jesus. Then He asked them what they were talking about and why they were so sad. The men asked Him if he had not heard the things that had happened. Jesus said, “What things?”
So the two men told Him all about it – that the wicked men had caused Jesus to be put to death, and he had been laid in a grave. Now certain ones had discovered that He was no longer in the grave. Then Jesus explained to them many things they had not understood about their Bible and about Himself.
Later, as they sat down to eat with Him, He took bread and returned thanks, and gave them some. Then these men knew that He was Jesus. He then vanished out of their sight.
His Home in Heaven
Jesus also showed Himself to a number of people, and several times to His disciples. Then one day while some people were standing listening to what Jesus was saying, He began to rise up into the sky. Soon a cloud hid Him from their view. As they stood there and watched Him disappear from their sight, two men in white clothing said to them: “Why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven” (Acts:1:11He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
).
We believe that Jesus is coming back soon for those who love Him and are looking for Him. If we are ready He will take us up to be with Him in Heaven forever.
