The building at Second and Main Streets soon became far too small. Every seat was filled, the aisles packed, the doorway jammed. Crowds stood out into the streets. City officials became concerned; and safety measures had to be taken limiting the number who could get into the hall; and when the place was filled, the doors were locked to prevent others from trying to enter.
The Word of God went forth under the anointing of the Spirit and many were drawn to seek God. All types of people attended—the helpless fallen men and women, and the spiritually hungry Christians from other churches. At the close of the services only those near the front of the hall could get a place at the altar of prayer. All available space would be taken by kneeling seekers; and some had to sit in their chairs to pray, having no room in which to kneel.
