When the fiery serpents were sent among the Children of Israel because of their sin, the Lord told Moses to make a brazen serpent and put it upon a pole, so that all who were bitten might look and be healed. Jesus has purchased healing for us; and by faith in the Son of Man we look to Him with all our hearts and are healed.
“And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived” (Numbers 21:9).
The brazen serpent was a type of Jesus lifted up and made a curse for us. We read in John 3:14, 15: “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” Now we see clearly that the serpent was a type of Jesus, and a look at the type healed the sick and dying; and how much more will Jesus Himself heal our diseases! He is the same today as He was to the Israelites; so when we look to the Son of God, with faith in Him, our broken bodies are healed, for Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and for ever.
God created these bodies, and He says, “Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost?” Does God need the arts of man, the surgeon’s knife, and drugs, to repair the temple of the Holy Ghost? No. Let the unbeliever, who knows not God and has not
faith in Him, turn to the science of man; but to us who know God these things are a curse.
Before Jesus ascended into Heaven He said: “These signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; . . . they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover” (Mark 16:17,18). Because God has again poured out the Holy Ghost in these last days, He has given unto His saints the authority to cast out demons, and to lay hands upon the sick and pray the prayer of faith, which brings deliverance to those who are bound.
Thousands in these last days have been healed of diseases – cancers, consumption, ruptures, rheumatism, asthma, fevers, deafness, and contagious diseases. Many persons have laid aside their bandages, supports, and crutches, and are healed of diseases the doctors could not cure.
How Can We Know that God Will Heal Us?
It is His will, plainly stated in His Word. “The prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up” (James 5:15). He wants all His people to be well and strong. He is the Great Physician. On the cross He bore our sicknesses and infirmities (Matthew 8:17). He made a covenant with His people when He led them out of Egypt: “If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee” (Exodus 15:26). His power is the same today. If we consecrated our lives to Him, lay them at the foot of the Cross, and but touch the hem of His garment, we shall receive His healing virtue and be made whole.
There Are Conditions to Be Met in Order to Receive Divine Healing
We must renounce the world and all its follies, and walk in the light God has given us. Many times God heals sinners who know nothing about God and are seeking light; but if one who has once known God has wandered away from Him, or if he is not fully consecrated, God will require him to give his life to Him, consecrated his all. Then all that God has promised in His Word shall be his – even healing for his body.
Sickness Is of the Enemy
God is not the author of disease; it is from the devil. God is the Healer of His people. He healed the woman “whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years.” “He cast out the spirits with his word.” He healed “all that were oppressed of the devil.” He “commanded the unclean spirit to come out.” He “rebuked the fever.” When the paralytic was brought to Jesus He first healed his soul, and afterward his body. Many people today, whose sins are forgiven, still have the infirmities of the flesh – sickness and disease. Jesus commands us to be free. He forgives our sins, also frees us from disease, and makes us every whit whole. It is your privilege in God not only to be saved and cleansed from sin but to have healing and health for your body.
We Should Use No Medicine After We Take Our Case to the Lord for Healing
You trust in God alone when you take Him as your Physician. If you take medicine, it hinders God from working in the case. God’s Word is plain: “Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD” (Jeremiah 17:5). There is a curse on those who profess to have put their trust in the Lord, having once known His power to heal, and then turn again to doctors and medicine. If you want God to undertake, give up medicine altogether and trust in Him. He says, “My glory will I not give to another.” You do not need to try to help Him, for He does not need any help. God created your body, and He is able to heal it and make it well. You can safely stand on God’s promises and look to Him alone for body and soul.
God is today healing through anointed handkerchiefs many who are sick, just as He did in the days of Paul (Acts 19:12). The handkerchiefs are laid on the Bible and prayed over and anointed with oil in the name of Jesus, just as we would pray over and anoint the sick if they were here. And when they receive the handkerchief, it is laid on in simple, childlike faith, and they believe in God for perfect deliverance. God honors their faith, coupled with ours, and heals many incurable diseases.
God Is Manifesting His Power
God is working in these last days in a wonderful way. A brother testifies: “A few years ago I was picked up on the job after a 65 pound pulley dropped about ten feet onto my head. I had a fractured skull and the skull was pressing down on my brain. They took me away in that condition, and after I lay hovering between life and death all night, it was a wonderful thought to me the next morning when one of the brothers came in and said, ‘They asked prayer for you at the church, and the people of God went down on their knees and prayed for you.’ I looked up and thanked God that I was with a people who could get a prayer through. At that moment I began to gain strength and confidence that God was going to heal me; and He did. The doctors and nurses marvelled at the way God healed my body.”
A man who had walked on crutches for fifteen years, suffering from white swelling, and looking like a dying consumptive, was met three blocks from his home by two of our ministers. The prayer of faith was prayed, and that young man was instantly healed. He walked home without his crutches, and gained in strength until he soon weighed 195 pounds.
God is healing broken bones. A man came into the church from a logging camp with his shoulder broken. The prayer of faith was prayed and God instantly healed him. He took his arm from the sling and lifted it in the air and praised God, and went to work in three days and carried grain on his shoulder. Jesus is healing all manner of diseases, and He truly is the same as when He was on earth.
Multitudes came to Jesus that they might but touch the hem of His garment, and every one who touched Him was made perfectly whole. The hem of His sacred garment today is in reach of every man and woman who will fall at His feet and reach out by faith and receive His virtue. Touch the hem of His garment, by faith in the Son of God, and you, too, shall be made whole.
