1. When mother of Salem their children
brought to Jesus,
The stern disciples drove them back and
bade them depart,
But Jesus saw them ere they fled,
And took them in His arms and said,
"Suffer the child-ren to come unto Me."

2. "For I will receive them, and fold
them to My bosom;
I'll be a Shepherd to these lambs O!
drive them not away;
For if they but believe in Me,
They shall My wondrous glory see,
"Suffer the child-ren to come unto Me"

3. How kind was the Saviour to bid these
children welcome!
But there are many thousands who have
ne'er heard His name;
The Bible they have never read,
They know not that the Saviour said,
"Suffer the child-ren to come unto Me."

4. And still the kind Saviour bids little children
welcome,
For Jesus' loving, tender heart to them
is the same;
Though here His voice is no more heard,
From heav'n itself He speaks the word,
"Suffer the child-ren to come unto Me."
