HEARTFELT
“With the heart man believeth unto righteousness.” A mental assent to the truth has no power to save from sin or alter our conduct in this world. A man testified recently that he sought God, and sought Him long; but he was seeking from a mental standpoint. And the moment he threw himself prostrate at the foot of the Cross, and in his heart said, “Lord, I believe,” the peace that Heaven only affords swept into his soul.
He had gone to the altar more times than one, and left it, saying, “Oh, I wish I could say that I am saved!” Somebody said to him, “Brother, the time will come when you will leave this place saying, ‘I know I am saved.’” And in a night or two, the saving power of God came down and God revealed Himself to his souls, and he left the place saved by grace. He had the testimony he had longed for for years, that he”had passed from death to life.”
There is a great difference between a head knowledge and a heartfelt experience. The world has a head knowledge, and a Christian has a heart knowledge. You can have the one and be lost; but you can have a heartfelt experience and be saved.
God saves the soul that comes in sincerity and earnestness, and lays his all at the foot of the Cross. God saves to the uttermost all that come unto Him by Jesus Christ.
We hear testimonies here from every walk in life --– from the moral man, and the man that was down in the depths of sin and crime. And the same Jesus, the same cure was necessary for each case. It matters not what your position in life may be; if you ever expect to meet God in peace, you will have to take the same remedy that the poor lost soul takes, and that is an utter dependence upon the shed Blood of Jesus Christ.
