The New Birth
Jesus said, “Ye must be born again.” He explained it to Nicodemus in the third chapter of John. He said, “The wind bloweth where it listeth.” You hear the sound of the wind, but cannot tell whence it cometh or whither it goeth. “So is every one that is born of the Spirit.” There is a change in your heart when Jesus comes in. Your sins are forgiven, you have a life born from above.
You cannot see the Spirit apply the Blood of Jesus and wipe away your sins; but you can feel the effects of the work wrought out in your heart and life. A love comes into your heart that is Heaven-born. You cannot express it. You cannot tell how or “whence it cometh.” But it is there. You “have passed from death unto life.”
How can you know? His Spirit bears witness with your spirit that you are a child of God. No person can shake out of your heart that consciousness that you are God’s child. It is a wonderful thing to be born again!
Old things passed away, and all things become new. The things of the world you once loved, you now hate. You love God and the Word of God with all your heart, because you have been born again. This is what it means to be a real Christian.
