EXECUTIVE SUMMARY REPORT OF CALABAR AND AKAMKPA AREAS CAMPMEETING: (8TH TO 15TH DECEMBER, 2024), WITH THE THEME: “COME. LET US REPAIR THE ALTAR OF THE LORD” – 1 KINGS 18:30
INTRODUCTION:
A one week Calabar and Akamkpa Areas Camp Meeting was proposed and approved by WECA to hold between 8th to 15th December, 2024 at Apostolic Faith Church, Calabar Area Head Quarters, 82 Mbukpa Road, Calabar in Cross River State. The choice of the venue was to enable us use the main Church building’s facilities like church auditorium, basement, Upper room area, prayer rooms, baptistery and the class room blocks of both the Secondary and Primary Schools to advantage.
PREPARATION:
The facilities at the site were enhanced to accommodate and provide comfort for prospective campers, especially the revitalization of some toilet facilities and the complete construction of the baptistery at the basement of the main tabernacle. Prior to the commencement of the camp meeting, prayer meetings were organized across the State, to seek God’s blessings and favour upon all who would participate in the camp meeting.
ARRIVAL OF CAMP DELEGATES:
Campers from long distance areas started arriving as early as Thursday 4th December, 2024, while others came in on Friday 5th December, 2024 as we commenced a manual registration of campers same day. We had delegates from across the four Zones of Calabar Area, namely Aningeje, Ikang, Nsisuk , the host Zone – Mbukpa and Akamkpa Area, namely Akamkpa, Ikom, Ikot Ibok and Ugep.
CAMPMEETING ACTIVITIES:
i) MINISTERS AND WORKERS CONFERENCE: The Ministers and Workers conference was held on Friday 5th December 2024 under the coordination of Calabar Area Overseer Brother Samuel Inyang, the DS’ representative, Bro. Segun Adenuga and Akamkpa Area Overseer Brother David Moses Ntui. The same material used at the last WECA Camp Meeting in Faith-City, titled “Good Stewardship” was used to engage the 466 workers that were present at the conference.
ii) SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS’ CONFERENCE: Sis. Victoria Philip reviewed the Elementary lesson, while Sis. Mary Owan reviewed that of the Adult titled. ‘’The New Jerusalem’’
on Saturday, 7th December, 2024. The lessons of the 2nd Sunday School Teachers’ Conference of Saturday 14th December, 2024 were reviewed by Sis. Chinazor Nworah (Elementary) and Bro. Joseph Idagu for Adult, titled “The River and Tree of Life”.
iii) COUPLES CONFERENCE: Our Couples Conference was held on Thursday 12th December. 2024. The programme coordinated by the DS’ representative Brother Segun Adenuga in the afternoon of Thursday, 12th December, with the title “Discovering and Decoding” was facilitated by nine facilitators from both areas among who are Sis. Pricilla Davin Ntui and Bro. Mboutidem Usoro of Akamkpa Area, Bro. Mike Ezerioha and Sis. Ophilia Bassey of Calabar Area. It is worth of note that participants at the Couples Conference testified blessed. While praying that the efforts of the ministry and the resources person will not be in vain, may God continue to keep husband and wife together.
vi) CHILDREN’S PROGRAMME: Our Elementary Department thrilled participants at the Camp meeting with inspiring songs and playlet in each of the two Sunday services. The first Sunday programmes titled "the Consequences of Bringing Strange Fire," illustrated by the biblical account of Aaron's sons, Nadab and Abihu (Leviticus 10:1) served as a warning against disobedience to God's commandment.
SUNDAY DEVOTIONAL SERVICES: The 1st Sunday devotional service was handled by the DS’ representative, Bro. Segun Adenuga. It was titled “Come Let Us Repair The Altar Of The Lord”. The sermon started with the Bible passage from Psalm 15:1-5 and I Kings 18:30 the sermon focused on the significance of alter in worship, signs of a broken alter, practical steps to repair the broken alter and benefits of restoring the alter. The Service had 1589 persons in attendance. The 2nd Sunday, Devotional service was handled by Calabar Area Overseer, Bro. Samuel Inyang. In a sermon titled “Christ's waiting bride” He took his first reading from Matthew 25:1-10 and reminded all that camp meeting is a time where we come together to reexamine ourselves, refill our lamps, prepare ourselves and stand ready to meet our bridegroom when he comes. Revelation 19:7
vi) BIBLE TEACHINGS:
a) The first Bible teaching held was on Monday 9th December. This was handled by Bro David Moses Ntui the Overseer of Akamkpa Area delivered the teaching on the topic 'Ye must be born again' using the account of Nicodemus John 3:1. He emphasized that being born again is a command from God, and without it, we cannot see God. The congregation was encouraged to consecrate their lives, seek sanctification and receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. He further reminded all that it is God's will for us to be saved, sanctified, and baptized. Total attendance was 521
Tb) Tuesday 10th December witnessed another Bible Teaching titled ‘’Doing the will of God’’ by Bro Victor Iyoho (Zonal Pastor of Ikang Zone). He took the text from Proverbs 14:34. Other references came from Matthew 6:33-34 and psalm 37:25. He stressed that all we do in this life should be patterned to align with the will of God. This will enable all to power of God. When we pray according to the will of God, we must surely receive answers. He encouraged all to ‘’seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all other things shall be added unto you’’ Matthew 6:33. 588 Pesons sat under the teaching
c) Wednesday 11th December, the Bible teaching was on “Backsliding In The Heart; A Deadly Disease” was handled by Bro. Bro Mike Ezerioha (Pastor of Atakpa Branch in Calabar Area). He read from Isaiah 29:13, the topic was introduced by giving the definition of backsliding: Backsliding is a deadly disease that can creep into the heart of even the most devoted man unnoticed, it brings spiritual decline. When one is saved, God plants a great joy and enthusiasm and the zeal of serving God in such a heart, but the devil is looking for a bait to attach to the heart, a hook for such a soul to swallow, as to pull him/her to the state of backsliding. We had a record of 617 persons in attendance.
d) On Thursday, 12th December, the Bible Teaching was anchored by Brother Friday Okon (Zonal Pastor of Aningeje Zone in Calabar Area). The teaching was on “walking with God”. He read from Matthew 5:20 and Genesis 5:22. Were Enoch walked with God for 300 years, demonstrating his obedience and commitment to God's will. He emphasized that walking with God requires listening to His voice, obeying His commands, and being faithful to His covenant (Psalm 15:1-2, Proverbs 28:6). The teaching drove the 677 worshippers to the altars of prayers.
e) Friday 13th December, witnessed the last Bible Teaching titled ‘’Consecrated People’’ by Bro. Daniel Unoh (Pastor of Anantigha Station in Mbukpa zone). He read from Isaiah 1:18 explaining that God is inviting sinners to repentance and after repentance they are to consecrate themselves to God. 622 persons were in attendance.
f) Saturday 14th December featured Water Baptismal service handled by Bro. Samuel Marcus (Pastor of Nsisuk Zone in Calabar Area). 61 candidates were water-baptized, with 461 worshippers in attendance. In the evening, other Ordinances were observed. The Lord’s Supper was handled by Bro. Essien Philip (Pastor of Nyaghashang Station in Nsisuk Zone), while Bro. J. C. Akpan (Pastor of Asabanka station in Nsisuk Zone) handled the Washing of Saints’ Feet. It was a solemn time for the 320 saints who fellowshipped together joyfully as they observed the ordinances in commemoration of the crucifixion, death, resurrection and ascension of Christ, and of His second coming.
vii) EVENING REVIVAL AND EVANGELISTIC SERVICES: Preachers at the evening revival and evangelistic services include Sis. Rachael Enesu, Bro. Ime Peter, Bro. Otei Echip and Sis. Godspower Obonukut.
viii) YOUTH PROGRAMME: Our youths were fully engaged throughout the programme. The Young People’s Revival meetings on Sundays, Wednesday and Friday were well attended by the youths. Preachers include Bro. Christian Edet, Bro. Micheal Unoh, Sis. Echanny Onda and Bro Enobong Usoro.
ix) TESTIMONY SERVICES: Testimony periods were characterized with soul lifting testimonies. Many testified of the power of God to deliver from sins and make one a new creature, sanctified and Baptized with Holy Ghost and Fire, Re-anointing, Healing and lots more.
x) CHRISTMAS CAMPMEETING CONCERT: The Camp meeting concert was held on Monday, 9th December, 2024 by 4:30pm. The Concert featured inspiring songs like O Come, Let Us Sing, Our God is Great, Ding Dong Merrily on High, O Holy Star, Nsikak Inam Abasi etc. The evening concert concluded with a playlet titled "The Rich Man," which told the story of a wealthy man who lost everything but ultimately found Jesus. The playlet led to an altar call, bringing the concert to a close. The concert had 1041 people in attendance.
xi) CHARITY DAY: The Charity Day, under the coordination of the DS’ Representative was held by 12:30pm on Saturday 14th December, 2024. It was well attended by young and old and everybody had something to pick.
xii) CAMPMEETING STATISTICS: We are very grateful to the Almighty God for the numerous blessings that were received during this Camp meeting. According to recorded statistics from the Information centre, a total of 469 were saved, 252 were sanctified, 120 were baptized with the Holy Ghost and fire, 230 believers were re-anointed, 362 people healed of various sicknesses and 358 other blessings, bringing the total blessings to 1,791.
Attendance at the Ministers’ and Workers’ Conference was 466. Peak attendance at the Camp meeting was 1,742. It was a great thing of Joy when 61 saved souls were baptized in water to full fill the command of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:19.
CONCLUSION:
I, on behalf of the Two Areas Overseer, the Camp meeting planning committee, Pastors and the entire children of God, we sincerely appreciate the District Superintendent, Board of Trustees and those too numerous to mention home and abroad who contributed in no small measure to making the Year 2024 Calabar and Akamkpa Areas Camp meeting a success.
