7. Counting the Cost
Let us learn a lesson from this dialogue at a wedding:
Pastor: Do you, young gentleman, take this lady as your beloved WIFE,to LOVE,and CHERISH for better or for WORSE?
Man:(silence...)Yes,...I do.
Pastor:Do you,young woman...
Woman:Hold on,pastor.May I ask him myself?
Pastor: If you elect to do so, you can have the floor.
Woman: Will you still love me if you know me in spite of myself, when we can't pretend? Will you still love me when kids come along and we can't always be alone to be as close as now? Will you still love me if I add on weight and lose my figure eight after so many kids? Will you still love me if I happen to be barren? Will you still love me if something happens and I'm deformed tomorrow? Will you still love me when we are far apart, you on business trip and me at home alone? Will you still love me if I become more famous? Will you still love me when I make mistakes? Will you forgive and forget? Will you still love me and stick to me when you realize there are so many who want your companionship outside? Will you still love me when I'm flat and out, no more services, lost all my vigor? Will you still love me when I'm eighty and wrinkled, lost all my wit, no sex appeal? Will you always love me now and forever, for better or for worse?Because I'll ALWAYS do!”
Dispute it if you will, but these questions raised at this wedding are true to life in marriage.
