In 1939, the addition of wings on the sides of the tabernacle gave 36 feet to its width and a greater seating capacity. Services in this building were held only during the summer camp meeting and it was boarded up for the remainder of the year. But as time passed, the Sunday attendance at the headquarters building downtown increased to the point where there was not adequate room for Sunday School classrooms, and also there was a parking problem in that area for so many cars. Something had to be done!
The most feasible plan was that of enclosing the campground tabernacle, making it usable the year round. In the fall and winter of 1947, the tabernacle was enlarged, enclosed, and insulated. The radiant heating system installed was new and unique at that time. Copper tubing was laid 8 inches apart the full floor area, and warm water flowing through the pipes gives an even heat, not varying more than two degrees from floor to ceiling.
