In 1926 a missionary who had spent six years in India came to the camp meeting. At that time she was of the opinion that all she needed was more power for service in her work. After listening to the teachings and the testimonies, she decided that she needed to be sanctified, for she had never experienced a second work of grace in her life. She listened to more of the Bible teachings and heard from God's Book that "Ye must be born again," a definite experience of salvation that comes through repentance. She realized she had never been "born again" and her final decision was that she needed to pray for salvation.
It meant a great deal for one who had spent six years in India as a Christian worker to humble herself and pray as only a sinner would pray. But that is what she did, and God abundantly rewarded her; and as she followed on with Him, He sanctified her and then gave her power for service, the mighty baptism of the Holy Ghost and fire.
For over 25 years she has dedicated her time and talent toward getting the Gospel out to the people of all the world. Although past the age of 80, she is still actively engaged in editorial work, Sunday School and home missionary work.
It was while she was working, for her brother, a congressman, in Washington, D. C., that he and another brother from the state of Washington attended the campmeeting, and the latter (who had been considered the black sheep of the family), was saved. The congressman was having trouble with two of his sons; and when he saw the change in his brother, he decided to send his boys out West to see if they could be helped. Within a short time the boys were both saved, and became interested in the spiritual condition of their parents. The parents came to the campmeeting and the mother was saved, sanctified, and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. It was upon their return to Washington, D. C., that the missionary had become interested in attending the campmeeting which resulted in her conversion. Other members of the family have also been saved and are engaged in Apostolic Faith evangelistic work.
Truly every effort put forth to draw souls to Christ pays big dividends in this world and in eternity. "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord" (I Corinthians 15:58).
