The two women made their way to the mission on Azusa Street and there they found the people upon whom God had so copiously outpoured His Spirit.
In continuing her testimony, Mother said of this congregation, "I was not looking at the people. I did not care whether anyone in that place was well-dressed or poorly dressed. I did not care whether any of them were colored or white. I was seeking more from the God of Israel. When I went in and sat down I listened to their songs, but the singing did not touch my heart. They knelt in prayer, but that did not especially impress me. Finally, a man arose to his feet and said, 'Hallelujah!' He waited a moment and again said, 'Hallelujah!' My soul responded, 'God, I have heard from Heaven.' I could feel in my spirit that that man had something in his heart which my soul was craving. The one thing I wondered about was, 'How could I get it?' I did not know how I could receive that wonderful experience of sanctification for which my soul had hungered so long.
“Before I left that place I had an interview with the minister in charge, and told him of my conversion and of the marvelous change which had taken place in my life. And I added, 'I am hungry for more of God and cannot find the satisfying portion.' He looked into my face and said, 'Sister, you have a wonderful case of salvation, but you need to be sanctified.”
