Mother would go anywhere, no matter how humble the place, to seek more of God. "I went to every altar that I could find," Mother said, "seeking the experience of sanctification. They would say: 'Sister, claim it, and you have it." But Mother said, "I will claim it when I get it." She wanted to have something in her heart that she knew about.

Mother longed to find someone who preached all the Word of God. One day when she and a friend were about to part, they sat with their Bibles in their hands, wondering why it was they could not find anyone who preached the Bible in its entirety. They found that some denominations would teach salvation, but not sanctification; others believed in sanctification but rejected the teaching of the baptism of the Holy Ghost. There were those who believed in divine healing but left out other vital doctrines. They agreed before they parted that if they ever found a people who preached the Gospel in its fullness, they would cast their lot with them. Mother said, "I will follow them to the ends of the earth."

Fifteen years passed before Mother and her friend met again. It was in 1906 that this Christian woman came to our home and said, "Sister Crawford, I have found the people who preach the whole Word of God." Mother asked, "Where are they?" She told her that they were down in the lower section of Los Angeles; and although she knew Mother had gone into the slums on various occasions to rescue the fallen, she did not think she would leave the Highland Park area to worship God in this lower end of the city. But with no hesitation, Mother said, "I do not care where the place is, I want to go. Take me there!"
