Unity in the Home
Once we are saved,we become co-heirs with Jesus Christ in His Father's Kingdom. Consider the language employed in describing the care of the man for his wife. He is charged to dwell with her “according to knowledge” and the relationship be with care as “unto the weaker vessel,” and that he be careful that their prayers would not be hindered. This is because you are co-heirs of eternal life. The emphasis here is that if your heart is not one, your prayer would be hindered. Such hindrance to prayer comes expressly from Heaven. If your relationship with your spouse is not cordial, it means you are gradually losing eternity with God.
Husband and wife must have a common purse. The objective is to give monetary support to individuals who will embrace the Gospel. Their objective is to buy a vehicle and use it to convey invited people to the church. They are united on which members of either family to assist in one form or another. They both plan about their needs and the needs of their children. They both deliberate about the progress of the Gospel. They plan their home together in all ways.
A married couple should have things in common. It is common among the working class that the husband and wife are career persons and they might gather money to buy a parcel of land, but when the land is purchased, the man may buy the land in his own name.He would build the house, but before you know what is happening, he has gone out of the Gospel, whereas, when he was building that house, the woman was not properly fed. The woman was also supporting him with her salary. And the house is jointly owned. The woman had left the father and mother's house and in confidence that she is in her own house, only for the husband to drive her out of the matrimonial home. Where does he want the woman to go? There is nowhere. The man has no right to claim ownership of the house since the woman contributed to its building. Subsequently, when things are not going well with him, the observers would not know the root cause of his troubles. By the time he intends to stop, God would rise to avenge his past wickedness. Please fear God and let His fear rule your hearts.
You may be anything in this world, you may believe anything, you may become anything in the world according to your determination but to get to Heaven, you must abide by the precepts of God. Consider it: after you might have testified to being saved, to being something in the service of God, and to having achieved one thing or another in the household of God and at the end of it all, you are found wanting in the Kingdom of God. You would be a great loser! God forbid.
Some erred from the Kingdom by taking wrong steps during their preparations for wedding, and they would not even consider it to be an issue. People would see them doing one thing or another and think they are Christians but alas, they have missed the road. It could even be that you are married to a wrong spouse.
Some women could have been once married to a man who might have destroyed their substance but when they came to the Gospel, they pretended as if nothing happened. You eventually got hooked to another woman's husband, since he knew nothing about your past life. That is sufficient trouble. You may agree or disagree, but one day, death would come knocking on your door. A1l these things could crop up in making marital choices. Remember when the Pharisees asked Jesus “when the Kingdom of God should come.”And He answered, “And as it was in the days of Noe,so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all” (Luke 17:26, 27). Why do you think Jesus referred to Noah's day? It is because not many would be interested on right marriage choices as they would be self-pleasers. Some would consider marriage as trading in merchandise.
They would think they could marry and divorce their partner as they please. We do ask those who report to us their willingness to get married if they know the choice they wish to make is eternal and that whatever they have belongs to their wife? They usually answer in the affirmative. By the time the woman gets to his house, the woman may begin to hide the husband's money, within time, the man may accuse her of being a prodigal, yet, he has willingly brought in a prodigal. Truth is, the wife may indeed be a prodigal. This accounts for why we always insist you pray earnestly to know the specific woman God intended should be your wife.
