Most unforgettable were the conversions of a man and wife who had become weary of confessing their sins to mortal man, and having no power to keep from committing the same sins again and again. The husband had made a remark that he believed only what he saw – and God let him see something that convinced him.
One day, a minister from the Apostolic Faith came into his neighborhood to pray for a widow’s boy, 19 years old, who was suffering from tuberculosis. The boy was almost skin and bones and had walked on crutches for 15 years. The minister met him a few blocks away from his home and asked him to sit down on a log, and there he was prayed for according to the Word of God. God instantly healed him and he walked home without his crutches. In a few months the boy weighed 195 pounds, was the picture of health, and did the hardest kind of work. This unbeliever said, “That case stared me right in the face, and when I was invited to come to the meetings I came and went to the altar to pray. I had never seen the inside of a Bible and did not know how to pray; but I asked God to have mercy on me, a sinner. He saved my soul, also saved my father. He had smoked a pipe for 60 years, and I had smoked for 25 years; but from that time on, neither of us had a desire for smoking”.
This man’s wife, who had said she would leave him before she would leave the Catholic Church, listened to the story he told her; and then she and her mother-in-law went to the services. On returning home she said: “These people have love. I can see it, and I can feel it.” God dealt with her heart, and one night in her home before going to meeting, she cried out, “oh, God give me what those people have!” At church, that night, she knelt and prayed, saying, “God, aren’t You going to save my soul? You saved others; be merciful to me, and give me what these people have.” Her prayer was answered. Her sins were washed away. The burden was gone, and peace came into her heart. The praises rolled out from her soul. The workers encouraged her to seek the deeper experiences; and before she left for home that night, the Lord had also sanctified her, and given her the baptism of the Holy Ghost. When she arrived home, the mother-in-law said to the husband, “I bring you an angel.” Because of her temper, and the turmoil that had been in their lives, they had called their home “a real heal”. Now the temper was gone, sin was gone; and for many, many years, a happy home has been theirs.
