A young couple with reputable positions, and many friends in the business world, failed to find satisfaction in their worldly pursuits. Sin began to create havoc in their home. Their hopes and ambitions were blasted; and their fine clothes, diamonds and gaiety of life no longer charmed them.

For refuge in time of turmoil, they tried both Christian Science and spiritualism to no avail. The medium of spiritualism told them they were nearing their fifth heaven, but they knew they were drawing nearer and nearer to hell all the time. The wife, in tempestuous state of mind, had sworn to jump off the bridge into the river rather than confess her sins. Their social friends knew not the sorrow of their hearts; but God knew their unhappy state.

The husband was so much soured on life that he hardly spoke to his helper in the store where he worked. One day his wife came in during the lunch hour, and the helper told them the story of God’s saving grace, and what God was doing at Front and Burnside. They attended the services, but as the wife went down the stairs she shook her hand, saying, “It is not for a wretch like me.” The husband prayed through to victory on a Sunday, and God kept dealing with the wife, who, at home, opened the Bible and read:

“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.”

The next day, in the basement of her place of business, God spoke to her heart and said, “Choose you this moment whom you will serve.” Right there she prayed for mercy; and God’s saving grace came into her life. She lifted her face toward Heaven and began singing: “When the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.” Peace and victory reigned in their lives and home from that day on through the years.
